Honoring Mr. Tom Birch

Welcome to the 32nd Annual Spring Garden Party -

Our dedicated co-chairs, Zoe Persina & Aimee Burck, committee members and staff have worked tirelessly to bring this magical event to life. We are grateful to them and to each of you for supporting Tudor Place, making this cherished springtime tradition in our flowering historic neighborhood possible. This year, we honor Tom Birch for his outstanding contributions to Georgetown, including his longtime service on the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, with a focus on historic preservation and fostering neighborhood community. We are thankful for his commitment to Tudor Place, which he has supported for decades as both a donor and a docent. Tom’s unflinching service-mindedness toward local and global communities, intelligence, diligence, gregariousness and generosity are characteristics that we celebrate.

We are grateful to Tom and to our neighbors, donors, members and partners, who are passionate about the preservation, sustainability and inclusive culture of Tudor Place. Tudor Place’s leading work in historic preservation, conservation and educational programming for all ages and communities is worthy of your support, not only today, but throughout the year. The special installation and guided tour Ancestral Spaces: People of African Descent at Tudor Place has garnered national attention as a paragon of interpretation and engagement with diverse communities. Major peer institutions have especially praised—and are now seeking to replicate—our collaboration with descendants of enslaved and free people of African descent who lived and worked here. This is one of the most exciting and noteworthy ways that Tudor Place fulfills its motto: “America’s Story Lives Here.”

The extraordinary work that unfolds at Tudor Place couldn’t happen without you. Care of the collection and garden, as well as the management of Tudor Place’s robust programming, are continuous and costly. The Spring Garden Party is the most significant annual fundraiser, contributing over 20% of operating revenue. Your support this evening benefits thousands of visitors each year: from second-graders to senior citizens, toddlers to teachers and world travelers to Washingtonians. We hope you will come back to Tudor Place soon for a tour, a walk in the garden or one of our wonderful events. We also hope you will consider becoming a member of this dynamic institution. Thank you again for your support, both tonight and in the future. Come say “hello!” It is my pleasure to welcome you to this National Historic Landmark.

In gratitude,

Dr. Christy Pichichero, Tudor Place Foundation Board President
